Hello Friends,
Happy August! I can’t believe that the summer months are coming to a close. I hope many of you were able to visit the Pillsbury Castle and see it in person. (Thank you Spacecrafting for this beautiful photo.) It is such an incredibly magnificent home. It was an honor to be involved in this project. The home symbolized how a space or spaces in a home can be transformed to represent its owners and their lifestyle while still respecting the historical aspects of the home’s origin.
Speaking of transforming spaces, I often contemplate the spaces in our home (which always makes Bill very nervous) and reimagine a room’s purpose and function. During the last year there has been one room that has been my focus. We have two guest rooms in our home. We occasionally use one guest room but haven’t had the need to use them both. I wanted to have two guest rooms because I wasn’t sure if mom would need to move in with us. Fast forward, I have always wanted a studio space with a door. Currently my studio is in designated area of the multi-function large room in our lower level. I have wanted my office on a higher level of our multi-level home. I wanted a place where I can shut the door and work without distractions. I wanted a studio space near the main entry where I could present design concepts to clients or view a fabric rep’s latest collection. (Can you see where this is going?) So, I started designing my new office just as I would with any client’s project – floorplan and layout, material and finishes. I wanted a space which would make me happy to be in.
My first criteria was designing the space to incorporate one of mom’s favorite chairs. I worked with my friend, Dianna, at California Closets to help me utilize every bit of space. A well-organized space will allow me to operate much more efficiently. As with most designs, the process takes time. I actually started working on this in November of 2023. There are still a lot of things to do to get the room ready. The room has been used as a landing zone for items we weren’t ready to donate and not sure if we wanted to keep. By keeping my sight on the end goal, the process of dealing with those items should become easier (I hope). I can’t wait to share photos as the project moves along.
