Hello Friends!

Happy 2025!  It is the new year and the beginning of fresh starts. Most of us have enjoyed the hustle and bustle that leads up to the holidays and all of its celebrations.  After all of the merriment we tend to slow down and settle in to enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere.  We want to retreat to a space that is warm and welcoming.  Even if you escape to a warm weather climate for a few months, it is nice to return to a place that is cozy and inviting.

Cozy Interior

Here are a few hints to help you create an inviting home.  Some are easy fixes and others are more involved. Whether you do one or all, your home can become the sanctuary that you deserve.

  • Use luxurious fabrics such satin or velvet. The tactile nature increases comfort and provides a feeling of curling up and cozying in.
  • Add layers of texture to your room.  It is amazing how a few velvet pillows or cushions, an area rug, a faux fur throw or a fuzzy blanket can turn a room into a retreat.
  • Make certain your lighting is layered with task lighting, ambient lighting and accent lights.  Lower levels of light create a cozy atmosphere.  Dimmers will soften the glow of lights.  I like to have them installed on almost all of my lights.  Candles are another way to create atmosphere in a room. There are many options for flameless candles (some are better than others).  Adding a few of those throughout the house can increase the ambiance.
  • Darker richer colors will evoke a feeling of relaxation.
  • Drapery panels can be added to frame the window and block out the cold.
  • Remove the visual clutter.  It is so easy to let the piles grow.  The visual clutter will detract from the space and from the coziness and sanctuary feeling you are trying to create.
  • Make sure you have a comfortable chair/sofa in the room.  You need a place to sit that offers support while you look at the paper, read a book or enjoy your favorite beverage.
  • Do you have a fireplace in the room? You may want to consider converting it to gas so you can use it with ease and efficiency.  If you don’t have a fireplace, would you like to add a gas or electric fireplace?  There are many new innovations in fireplaces which make the process much easier than in the past.

I hope you have enjoyed these ideas which can help you create a cozy relaxing home.  If you would like some assistance in creating a home that can be your place of retreat, give me a call.  I would be happy to help you with a plan.

I wish you a wonderful 2025!
