Hi Friends,

The days of fall are on our doorstep.  This is the time when the children and grandchildren are back in school and we get back to our groove.  We revert to our “to do” list of items we want to complete or accomplish before the holidays approach.

As you may remember from my last newsletter, I am moving my office to a different location.  I treated the project as I would any client’s project.  I researched what was needed and what the goals of the project were and I enlisted the support of professionals (Dianna at California Closets) who could work in tandem with me to enhance the outcome.  We are in the final stages of completing the project. The project would not have run as smoothly as it did if I had tried to do everything by myself.

However, I was reminded of one valuable lesson – just because you think you can do something yourself, it can be better to leave it to the professionals.  You see, I thought it could be cathartic for me to paint my new office (walls and ceiling) myself.  It would be a form of taking ownership.  That lasted about half way through day one of painting the ceiling.  Having to reach above my head rolling paint on the ceiling was far from cathartic. What I didn’t take into account were the three days that it would take for me to do this while trying to “squeeze it in” between my other responsibilities and the agony of putting my body through the contortions of being in positions I hadn’t been in since my cheerleading days.

We are all tempted to do things ourselves, especially with all the HGTV shows showing us how easy it can be.  But is it really?  There is a reason why there are professionals who get paid to provide such services.  They have been trained to do what they do and do it day in and day out.  Many have gone through apprenticeships or internships and take classes to learn the latest and greatest techniques. Those three days of painting would have been better used working in my own business or enjoying something I would rather have been doing.

When taking on a home update or remodeling project, it can be extremely advantageous to hire a professional to assist you in the process.  There are so many decisions that need to be made and every decision may affect the other decision, whether you are aware of it or not.  Interior Designers have been trained in the Elements and Principles of Design. We attend continuing educational classes in order to stay current.  We are able to narrow the selection process so you won’t feel overwhelmed with decisions.  We also have connections to professionals who can assist in the process.  As the old saying goes…”you don’t know what you don’t know”.  Keep your update or remodel project running on track by hiring the professionals to assist you.  That way you can enjoy the process from beginning to end.

If you need assistance in planning and implementation of your home project give me a call.  I would be happy to help you turn your vision into reality.

Creating spaces you’ll love,
