Hi Friends!

Happy New Year! I think we have all been anxiously awaiting 2021 and the good it will bring to all of us! As promised I am going to try to send out a monthly (we’ll see) newsletter with different design tips, tricks or advice. I would love to hear from you and what you would like to hear. terry@terrygustafsoninteriordesign.com

After spending so much time at home and often secluded in 2020, we have had plenty of time to be in our homes and determine what is working and what isn’t. If you are like me, several items will pop up immediately. Why not walk through your home and make notes on the areas you would like to address. Is there a room that is in need of a touch up or new paint? Is there a closet that could use an organizational system? Does everyone in your home have a place to “work” or does this need to be addressed sooner rather than later?

So how could you approach these issues…

Make a list of the items you want to change or update. Even if you don’t know what to do or how to fix it write it down. Walk through your house and make notes for each room. If a room is just the way you want it write that down as well.

Prioritize your list in order of importance. It is often easy to start with the smaller updates and do those first (new paint in the bedroom, change the hardware in the bathroom…) Smaller improvements can often be done within a few days and provide a feeling of accomplishment within a short period of time.

If the project is something that would make your life easier, such as designated work areas or a closet system, address that one first. The peace it will provide will be worth the time to accomplish it.

If it is a big project (kitchen or bathroom remodel) start the planning process – collect pictures (either virtual or paper) of what you like and what you don’t like (what you don’t like can be as important to the process as the likes). Use this time to do the research of the must haves and would like to have.

Most of all have fun. Don’t let it feel like a burden. This process should not feel like “work”. It can be a great beginning.

If you need some help or guidance we would be more than happy to assist you with your projects – big or small.

I wish you all a happy, healthy prosperous 2021!
