Hi Friends,

Does anyone else have spring fever?  I love this time of year when the temperatures are warming, the snow is melting and the days are getting longer.  The combination of sunshine and light makes such a difference to my entire mental attitude.  Light has a huge impact on our lives.  This includes the lighting in your home.  Have you taken an assessment of your lighting to see what could be improved?  It’s easy; this is what I did recently.

  • Get some LED bulbs. LEDs have made a huge impact in the lighting industry.  Replace your bulbs with LEDs and you will be amazed at the improvement to your lights, not to mention they’re efficient!
  • Add some LED strip lights as under cabinet lights in your kitchen or the dark area of your closet.
  • Look around your room to see where you can add some light or make some improvements on lighting. Does your desk area need an additional light source? Does your living room need a floor lamp by your favorite reading chair?  Adding another fixture can make all the difference of the “feel” of a room.  Perhaps you have a two bulb ceiling light fixture that doesn’t light up the room.  Look for a ceiling fixture that has three-or four bulbs or replace it with an LED fixture.  There are “drop-in” LED fixtures for recessed ceilings. I recently discovered LED drop in lights for our lowest level.  (I know – it might be hard to believe that a designer admits to having a drop-in recessed ceiling but if you knew my husband and his love for adding/hiding wires while still having them accessible then you would understand. Don’t even get me started on trying to understand how all the remotes interact with the TV …).
  • Add dimmer switches. With lights on dimmers you can control the amount of light you have.  It is not just on and off.  Dimmers allow you to create a room with ambiance.
