Hi Friends,

Summer is here! The sunshine invites us outdoors – to tend our gardens, fire up the grill, and savor long evenings on the patio. But even as we enjoy the season, many of us find ourselves thinking about ways to make our homes more comfortable and functional, both for today and for the years ahead.

Here are a few tips I share with my clients to make this transition smoother (and more enjoyable!):

  1. Do the Messy Work Before Moving In
If you can, paint, refinish floors, or renovate before you move in. You’ll thank yourself later. Delaying your closing by a couple weeks to get this done can be a smart move.
  1. Don’t Overlook the Windows
Check whether your new home has window treatments—and if they actually work with your style. Replacing them now avoids the dreaded “fishbowl effect.”
  1. Edit What You Own
Make four categories: Must Keep, Nice to HaveMaybe, and Donate/Sell. (I know it is cliché…) Let the last group go before the movers arrive—your future self will be so grateful.
  1. Photograph & Measure Everything
Creating a spreadsheet of key furniture pieces (with photos and measurements) makes space planning so much easier. Plus, it’s a great reference to share with your designer or let us do it for you!
  1. Plan Your Layout Ahead of Time
Obtain a floor plan and do a furniture layout before move-in. This helps you know what fits where—and what might need to be replaced.
  1. Don’t Be Afraid to Store a Few Things
If you’re not ready to part with something (or aren’t sure it will fit), renting a short-term storage unit can buy you time and reduce chaos on moving day.

The key is to be methodical and selective—and to have help. If this all feels a bit overwhelming, that’s where I come in. I help clients navigate every step, from pre-move renovations to styling their new space with intention.

Let’s set up a discovery call and make your rightsizing journey a graceful one.
