Hi Friends,
Are you like me and counting the days until the weather gets warmer? Isn’t it amazing how being inside makes you notice areas of your home that are not functioning as well as you would like them to function? I know you have heard me talk in previous newsletters about carefully planning your project. One key factor which is often overlooked in the discussion is relationships. You need to have a great relationship with your designer, your General Contractor (GC) and the Subcontractors (and Architect if used). If you have a great relationship with these critical contributors, and they have a great relationship with each other, the rest will fall into place. Communication and respect are essential. I have to share a story about a recent project and how the great relationships assisted in making the project a success.
I have a wonderful client who recently moved and wanted to update their primary bathroom. (I had assisted them with a bath update in their previous home.) The bathroom in their new house had a large tub and a very small shower which did not fit their way of life. The décor of the bathroom, although not bad, didn’t fit their style. Originally they thought they would do the update in 2026 but after a few short weeks with the tiny shower they decided to move up the timeline. What was going to be a spring of 2025 project turned into a December of 2024 project. The contractor was able to adjust his schedule so the project could be completed while the homeowners were out of their home from December 18-January14th. Just thinking about the timeline, makes my stomach do flip-flops. The relationship between the client, the contractor, his subs and myself were essential in making this project a success.
It was the beginning of November and I needed to come up with a design with products which would meet the timeline. The contractor, homeowner and I worked to finalize decisions quickly. The Showrooms worked with us to place orders and get products to us within the time schedule. The homeowners trusted us to take care of the project and the minutia of details to make everything come together. This isn’t to say that there weren’t any hiccups along the way. But, we all were able to work together to solve the problems while keeping the homeowner’s best interest in mind. Look to a future newsletter when I elaborate on this.
Embarking on a home update is a very personal and emotional experience. There are people in your home and your day to day living is disrupted. There can be a lot of noise and mess. It is well worth it once the project is completed but it can be challenging when you are in the middle of the process. When choosing who will help you for your next project consider your relationship with them and their relationships with each other. Everyone needs to be working together and looking out for your best interests. Are they able to problem solve and support one another? I would love to be able to help you make your dream come true. I am supported by a great team. Together we will help that dream come to life. Give me a call and let’s start planning your next project.
Creating spaces you’ll love,
